Chamber pots are replaced with toilet and shower

From 1988 to 1990, 20 sleeper carriages from the 1950s were renovated, and WL3 was renamed WL5. Each WL5 had ten sleeping compartments, four of which had their own shower and toilet facilities. Passengers in the other six compartments had shared shower and toilet facilities at one end of the carriage.

The carriages were presented with equipment such as public address system, a wake-up device, bell, soundproofing and push-lift operated sliding end doors.

A big emphasis was made on the fact that there were no chamber pots in the compartments. A chamber pot is a small portable toilet that was located in the washbasin cabinet of the older carriages. The first four carriages delivered after the renovation were put into service on the Stockholm–Malmö night train.
