Ulla Brita Neibig was Sweden’s first female train driver. She started out as a ticketing officer for Storstockholms Lokaltrafik in 1970. By 1972, she had completed training and worked as a train driver on the Roslagsbanan narrow gauge railway. It took another five years before SJ began hiring female train drivers.
The same year, the Interrail card is introduced to mark the 50th anniversary of the International Union of Railways, UIC.
Also, 1972 is the year when the last steam locomotive is taken out of service in Sweden.
