Swedish Railway Museum sells trips on its own trains. The following terms and conditions apply without exception to all trips made with us.
Trips for the public, outside Gävle
Swedish Railway Museum, hereinafter referred to as JVM, is responsible only for the journey and its own trains. Should a problem arise, JVM will do its utmost to ensure the following:
- In the case of a single journey – The traveller reaches the end-station with JVM or other means of transport.
- In the case of a return journey – The traveller returns to the starting point. JVM cannot guarantee connections with other means of transport except where explicitly stated or are included in package trips. No claims for damages will be entertained.
Costs for any connections and accommodation that a traveller arranges solely for the trip are not reimbursed.
Trips for the public, within Gävle
- JVM is responsible only for the trip and for its own trains. Should a problem arise, JVM will do its utmost to ensure that the traveller returns to Swedish Railway Museum at Sörby or Nynäs, or to Gävle Central.
JVM cannot guarantee connections with other means of transport except where explicitly stated or are included in package trips. No claims for damages will be entertained.
If a train advertised locally in Gävle is cancelled, JVM will not arrange a replacement for a trip that has not begun. If JVM has transported a traveller in one direction but cannot transport the traveller back, JVM will try to arrange replacement traffic. No claims for damages will be entertained.
Costs for any connections and accommodation that a traveller arranges solely for the trip are not reimbursed.
Cancellation
The traveller has the right to cancel a booking and receive full repayment of the fare no later than 14 days before the departure date. Exceptions may apply in the case of certain package trips; the traveller must however be made aware of this explicitly.
After the final booking date, the traveller is entitled to full repayment in the event of acute illness or close relative's serious illness. JVM reserves the right to require a doctor's certificate. Other valid reasons approved by JVM may give entitlement to full repayment provided that the traveller cancels the booking as soon as possible before the journey begins.
Seat reservations
It is only possible to reserve seats when advertised and in first and second class.
Waiting list
Should a trip be fully booked, a waiting list may be drawn up in the order, by date, the booking requests were received. Anyone who is contacted must then reply quickly and clearly whether they wish to accept the place they are offered or not. If a person cannot be reached by phone, he or she is removed from the waiting list the following day.
Changes and delays
JVM has the right to make changes to its programme, for example routes and activities if JVM considers it to be necessary. In the case of more substantial changes of a negative nature, JVM endeavours to compensate the traveller in some way. In the case of particularly substantial changes of a negative nature, the traveller is entitled to reasonable financial compensation. The traveller is entitled to compensation for extra costs in conjunction with a delay only if JVM causes the delay. Claims for compensation in conjunction with a change or delay shall be made within one week of the end of the event.
Cancelled trips
JVM has the right to cancel a trip in the case of insufficient number of participants or other urgent circumstances. JVM shall then without delay inform the travellers who have booked the trip and repay the fares.
Tractive vehicles
JVM provides museum vehicles and an advertised tractive vehicle may be replaced with another tractive vehicle. This may be necessary because we operate old vehicles and these can also break down. JVM also has the right to replace a steam locomotive with another locomotive; see below.
Steam locomotives fired by solid fuel, e.g. coal, can cause fires in the countryside in dry weather. JVM therefore has a regulatory framework which means that we operate steam locomotives at fire risk levels 1-3 and assess the situation at fire risk levels 4 and 5. We do not run steam locomotives at fire risk level 5E.
If a steam locomotive is replaced with a diesel or electric locomotive, customers are paid reasonable financial compensation since steam locomotives are always more expensive to operate.
Travellers' obligations
Travellers are to have arrived in time before the departure time published in the programme. This applies both at the departure station and at other stations where stops are made. The train cannot wait for delayed travellers. Travellers who arrive too late must join the train at a later stop at their own expense. No fares are repaid should a traveller instead choose to terminate or not begin the trip.
Travellers must comply with instructions given by tour guides, train staff or other railway staff and any regulations printed in the programme. A traveller who does not comply with safety instructions or behave in a way that may harm another traveller or JVM's reputation may be asked to leave an ongoing trip. The same applies to anyone who repeatedly ignores other instructions. No repayment of fares or other charges is made in such cases.
Travellers may not dress in railway uniforms or similar clothing or high-visibility clothing. Such clothing may lead the public and other travellers to believe that a traveller is a member of the train staff. This may then cause safety problems in the event of an accident or evacuation. Thank you for your cooperation. It is much appreciated.
