In 1894, the Uppsala-Gävle railway is the first in Sweden to have a restaurant carriage. Half of the carriage is reserved for dining, while the other half contains the kitchen and serving area.
Three years later, SJ also starts serving food on board. And beginning in 1939, SJ’s subsidiary Trafikrestauranger is in charge of operating the restaurant carriages in the trains.
