Sweden's first railway tunnel, Nyboda Tunnel, is built in connection with the construction of the Western Main Line (Västra Stambanan) to Stockholm.

Construction of the first railway tunnel in Sweden begins in 1858 under Nybodahöjden in the Liljeholmen area of southern Stockholm. It is completed in 1860. Blasting of the tunnel is carried out by prisoners from Långholmen Prison.
