The very first travelling the Western Main Line departs from Stockholm on the morning of 3 November. On board is King Karl XV. The train arrives in Gothenburg the following evening. The inauguration lasts for four days and the train will return to Stockholm on 6 November. Two days later, the Western Main Line opens for public traffic.

In connection with the new railway line between Gothenburg and Stockholm, so-called railway time is introduced. At this time, Sweden does not have a uniform time and the difference between Gothenburg and Stockholm is 24 minutes. It does not work to have a timetable that goes according to local times, which is why it is decided that Gothenburg time should apply to the railway.
